Pillow Talk - Potential Tool for Long Distance Relationships

Wednesday, March 30, 2011

">

Pillow Talk is a project by interaction designer Joanna Montgomery aimed at helping long-distance couples stay connected. It's still in the prototype phase, but she's gotten enough interest that she's already raised investment funds to help make it a reality.

It works like this: each person has a special pillow and a sensor band for their chest. When they go to bed, the other person's pillow will glow softly. When the other person goes to sleep, they'll actually be able to hear their partner's real-time heartbeat through the pillow.

You can find out more about Pillow Talk and check on how the project is coming along at the creator's website.

Aww, longest kiss ever - new world record!

Sunday, February 20, 2011

"Any man who can drive safely while kissing a pretty girl is simply not giving the kiss the attention it deserves."

~Albert Einstein

This Associated Press clip covers a kissing contest in Thailand where couples competed to see who would last the longest. Couples had to remain in contact the whole time, even when going to the bathroom. The winners lasted almost two days! The time still needs to be certified by Guiness, but if it stands it will be a new world record.

Aflac's Japanese Advertising Campaign - the Maneki Neko Duck

"Aflac!"
~ one very excited duck

Aflac is the largest insurance company in Japan, in part thanks to some adorable advertising. In 2009 they introduced the Maneki Neko Duck, a combination of the traditional Beckoning/Lucky Cat and the Aflac duck ("Aflac!"). Cute (kawaii) is big in Japan, so even though these commercials may seem aimed at kids they have been extremely effective at promoting the company. There have also been live mascots, stuffed animals and even a CD single.
